Reception Admissions – Hampstead Parochial CE Primary School

Hampstead Parochial is a one-form entry Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School with 30 Reception places available each academic year. Where the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places, the governors will apply the following admissions criteria.

Priority Admissions

Places will first be offered to:

  • Looked after children (children in the care of a Local Authority)
  • Previously looked after children (those adopted or subject to a child arrangement or special guardianship order)

Foundation and Open Places

Remaining places are split equally:

  • 50% Foundation Places (based on church attendance)
  • 50% Open Places (based on proximity to the school)

If there is an odd number of places, the extra place will be allocated under Foundation criteria. Applications must be made either for a Foundation Place or an Open Place. Unsuccessful Foundation applicants will automatically be considered for an Open Place.

Application Process

  • All applicants must complete the Common Application Form via their home Local Authority or the e-admissions website.
  • Applicants for Foundation Places must also complete a Supplementary Information Form, including a clergy reference covering the previous two years of worship.
  • Supplementary Forms are available from the school office or website and must be returned directly to the school by 27 January 2026.

Foundation Place Criteria (in order of priority)

  1. Siblings at the school whose parents are regular and committed worshippers at the Parish Church of St John-at-Hampstead
  2. Siblings at the school whose parents are regular and committed worshippers at other Christian churches
  3. Children whose parents are regular and committed worshippers at the Parish Church of St John-at-Hampstead
  4. Children whose parents are regular and committed worshippers at other Christian churches and live within three miles of the school

If multiple applicants meet the same criteria, priority will be given to those living closest to the school. If fewer than 15 Foundation applications are received, remaining places will be offered under Open criteria.

Open Place Criteria (in order of priority)

  1. Siblings at the school at the time of entry
  2. Children living closest to the school

Waiting List

A waiting list will be maintained in order of the published oversubscription criteria. Foundation applicants are ranked ahead of Open applicants. Parents must notify the school annually to remain on the list.

Deferred Entry to Reception

Parents may request:

  • Deferred admission until later in the academic year or until the term in which the child reaches compulsory school age
  • Part-time attendance until the term in which the child reaches compulsory school age

Multiple Births

If siblings tie for the last available place, all will be offered a place, even if this exceeds the planned admissions number.

In-Year Admissions

Applications follow the same process as Reception admissions. If more applications are received than places available, Foundation criteria will be applied first. If no Foundation applications are received, Open criteria will be used.
