At Hampstead Parochial School, we are committed to providing all children with learning opportunities to engage in Art and Design. We believe that Art and Design education should inspire, engage and challenge our children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Children use sketchbooks to experiment with techniques, record their thoughts and ideas, to reflect and evaluate their learning. Our Art and Design curriculum seeks to inspire and develop children’s critical abilities and understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through studying a diverse range of artists. Children should also learn how art and design both reflect and shape our history, contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
As a school, we have chosen to use a published scheme, Kapow Art and Design Scheme of Work to teach the Art and Design Curriculum in Key Stage 1 and 2. Kapow Art and Design Scheme of work enables our teachers to deliver creative, inspiring and engaging lessons and provides for progression in skills and knowledge. We are confident that the scheme of work meets the requirements for the National Curriculum for Art and Design and the Expressive Arts and Design section of the Early Years curriculum.
Our coverage of the National Curriculum is also enriched by after school arts and craft clubs and trips to galleries such as The National Gallery.
